The Board and I are filled with gratitude as we write this update about the work the Lord has been doing in laying a foundation for Providence Classical School and granting a vision of what may be built here for His glory.
First, I believe it may help to provide a brief introduction of those who serve on the Board. I’m Zach Miller, and I serve as Chairman; Joseph Anderson serves as Vice Chairman, and Caleb Terry serves as Secretary/Treasurer. We are Christ-followers and active members of local gospel-preaching churches. We all live in the Newnan area with our wives and young, school-aged children. Together we share a vision to form a new classical Christian school that reflects the truth, goodness, and beauty of the Creator, and that helps us fulfill our calling to raise our children in the paideia of the Lord (Eph. 6:4).
Over the past several months, we have attended to the necessary and often unseen work of beginning well: organizing the nonprofit, applying for and receiving federal tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3), and filing the state and local forms that put us on strong administrative footing as we look toward the inaugural year. Early in the process, we received wise counsel to build as though it will last a hundred years, which we took to mean making sure the details, like drafting our bylaws and filing paperwork, were done with care. By God’s grace, we have sought to do just that.
Recently, the Board set Fall 2027 as our working target for launch. We plan to open with elementary school grades, though we welcome whatever the Lord has in store.
Of course, much remains to be done before doors can open. We are looking for partners who would join us in the labor of launch, whether by helping find a location, spreading the word among families who may be looking for this kind of education, or serving in other ways that become clear as we go. We are also looking for financial partners, for the first clear expense ahead of us is the hiring of a Headmaster, someone who can take the educational philosophy and values of the school and put them into working order, and who can help gather a faculty that will meet our standards and serve as a living curriculum for our students.
Classical education is still a newer idea to many families in this part of Georgia, though elsewhere in the state and across the country it has been practiced with care for years, and we hope to learn from those who have gone before us. The lost tools of learning we mean to recover are not new. They have been tested over centuries, and we aim to follow in that tradition.
We intend to pursue accreditation through the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) and to take part in the Georgia GOAL and American GOAL scholarship tax-credit programs as those paths open to us.
If you are a family considering Providence, or someone who wants to help build what is ahead, we would be glad to hear from you. We welcome feedback and ideas as this work unfolds. Share your interest at providencenewnan.org, give at give.providencenewnan.org, or write info@providencenewnan.org.
